Every instrument has a story it holds and a song it sings. As musicians, we understand the importance of making sure each instrument is well-taken care of. This project was about creating a beautiful and functional (our unofficial motto) piece for a friend that would safely hold their small instruments (mandolin, ukulele, and violins) while fitting the growing style of their mid-century home. The idea was to hold 5-6 instruments in their gig bags or out for easy access.
This cabinet stands about 4ft tall and 3ft wide, made of Walnut and vintage brass bars, and angled brass-wrapped peg legs from tablelegs.com. The materials were inspired by the Laundry Cart we made earlier this year. We love the flowing design of the shelves and the alternating open ends with brass bars add a shine and keep the piece from being too heavy. We applied a polyurethane finish to hold up to wood and metal contact as well as add a subtle shine.
We hope you like this as much as we do! This piece was difficult to hand over.
